Katharine Fountain 's goals...
From a young age, I have been blessed with the opportunity to travel and meet many new people whilst seeing the world. In the past year, I have travelled to Belize , Kenya and Mexico all on community service based trips. Each trip allowed me to take action in another part of the globe in a field that I'm passionate about. In Belize I got to work with animals and environmental conservation through my work with the Wildlife Conservation Society tagging sea turtles and participating in beach cleanup. In Kenya , after raising over $12,000 with our school's Youth In Action group, with the help of the team I was able to build a kitchen, paint sick bays and line a water tank in some of the poorest schools in the world. I also got to teach children and interact with many people and learn the ways of life on the other side of the world. In Mexico , I played guitar and sang in our school band for the small city of Campeche . When we weren't performing, we handed out food to a poor community and made a visit to an orphanage. However, despite the work I have already done, my desire to help others has only grown stronger. I hope that I can use my title to raise awareness for my platform, which is HIV/AIDS research in Africa, as well as to support smaller endeavours within Canada and my community. I also hope that by earning the title of Miss Teen Canada – World, I will be able to inspire other young women to take action as not only Canadians, but as global citizens. “We cannot solve the problems of today with the same level of thinking that created them”.
Katharine Fountain 's bio...
Katharine Fountain, 18, was born in the small community of St. Margaret’s Bay, just outside of Halifax. She has spent the past three years at King’s-Edgehill School, a boarding school located in Windsor, N.S where she recently completed the International Baccalaureate Programme. She is looking forward to studying business at McGill University in Montreal come fall. Katharine enjoys music and has a passion for singing and playing guitar; she is also an avid snowboarder and is anticipating spending two weeks this summer in British Columbia at a summer training camp. Prior to this she spent the first 15 years of her life on the ice as a figure skater. In the past year, she has traveled to Belize to partake in turtle conservation research, Kenya to volunteer in schools, and most recently Mexico on a school band excursion. Katharine very excited to have the opportunity to take part in the Miss Teen Canada- World Pageant!
