Gabriela is the oldest of three children and comes from a Croatian family. Her grandparents came to Canada 40+ years ago. Gabriela is a grade ten student attending Garden City Collegiate in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She stays active by playing soccer, volleyball, swimming and dance. She aspires to become a dentist and is very focused and motivated. Friends and family describe her as a strong, humble, supportive, honest and fun loving young lady. She overcomes difficult situations by seeing the best in everything and everyone. She received the Derrol W Ward Memorial Award for being the all-around most compassionate student at her grade 8 grad. Gabriela volunteers at St. Nikola Tavelic Parish and at the Croatian Pavilion during Folklorama, Canada’s largest multicultural event. Gabriela feels strongly about her anti bullying platform. When Gabriela was ten years old her father suffered a major heart attack and miraculously he survived. This changed her forever. She has since inspired the family to volunteer for Heart and Stroke Foundation. Her family has helped her get through adversities and has been there to rejoice at her accomplishments. They are proud of her and she loves them very much. With hard work and determination she will achieve many of her goals.
